Applications & Admissions
How do I apply?
Studying Abroad is one of the most exciting experiences on your student journey, and we’re here to support you every step of the way! While each Study Abroad office will have its own specific process, it generally follows a few standard steps.
Step 1: Apply
First, you’ll need to create an account through our Study Abroad Portal. Within the portal, you’ll find the Application Form, where you’ll be asked to respond to a few questions and submit an unofficial transcript so we can assess your suitability for our program. It usually takes about 2 days to find out if your application has been successful, but it’s often sooner!
Apply today - there’s no application fee!
Step 2: Speak with our Admissions Advisors
Congratulations, you’ve been accepted on our program! The next step is to arrange a meeting with one of our experienced Admissions Advisors. They’ll be able to walk you through the entire Admissions process, giving you all the information you need to speak with your Study Abroad Office.
You can choose to pay your $295 deposit at this stage to secure your spot on our program. This is not an additional fee but a contribution to your Program Fee and will be deducted from the overall cost of your program.
Step 3: Review Admissions Documentation
There will be a few documents that your Study Abroad Office will need to see, which you can find within your Study Abroad Portal. This includes Course Specifications, Syllabi, Learning Outcomes, and Assessments. Some Study Abroad Offices will have additional documents to fill out. If you have any questions at all, our Admissions Advisors are just a phone call away!
Step 4: Speak with your Study Abroad Office
Next, you’ll need to arrange a meeting with your Study Abroad Office. They’ll review your documentation and submit course details to your University’s Academic Advisor. This advisor will match our courses to your degree requirements to determine which credits our courses will fulfill.
Step 5: Submit Participant Approval Form
Your Study Abroad Office will need to fill in a Participant Approval Form indicating to us that your credits will be accepted at your University. You can upload this document to your Study Abroad Portal, or your Study Abroad Office can send it to admissions@projects-abroad.org.
Step 6: Secure your spot
Now that your University has approved your study abroad application, you’ll need to pay a non-refundable $295 deposit to secure a place on our program. This is the first payment towards your Program Fee and not an additional fee. Your deposit can be paid after Step 1 if you’re worried about places filling up.
Step 7: Get excited
Congratulations! Now it’s time to celebrate – you're studying abroad! Can’t wait to see you there.
Credit Transfer & Transcripts
How does credit transfer work with Projects Abroad programs?
Projects Abroad programs are fully accredited through our School of Record – Greensboro College, facilitating seamless credit transfer to your home university. Following your course, you'll receive your grades and transcript, which you’ll submit to your university for credit transfer.
What should I do to transfer study abroad credit earned on Projects Abroad programs to my university?
Begin by checking if Projects Abroad is an affiliate provider at your university. If not, you can transfer credits by seeking approval based on course syllabi. Communicate with your Study Abroad Office and Academic Advisor early in the Admissions process. It is relatively straightforward, get in touch, and we can walk you through it.
What is the process for receiving my transcript after studying abroad with you?
Upon completing your program, your transcript will be issued by the School of Record through Projects Abroad, typically within 4-6 weeks. For any questions regarding transcripts or credit transfer, contact admissions@projects-abroad.org.
Billing & Finance
What’s included in my program fee?
We take care of all the details so you can focus on maximizing your experience abroad.
- Shared student cabins and a short-term homestay with a local family
- Daily meals and snacks during programming
- Hosted excursions, cultural activities, and social events throughout your program
- Transportation during programming, unless otherwise noted
- Official Transcript

Do I pay Projects Abroad or my University?
Typically, you pay Projects Abroad directly, although, in some instances, your university will handle payments. Your Study Abroad Office should be able to provide specific guidance for your case, and we are happy to work with you and your university to find the best payment method.
There are 3 options for billing:
- The student is billed directly (most common)
- The student is billed directly for a portion (usually Room & Board), and the school is billed for the remainder (usually Tuition)
- The school is billed for the total amount of participation
What is the billing process?
The billing process will depend on a few factors, including our agreement with your university, if you elect to use financial aid, or if you choose a Payment Plan.
Full payment of your program fee is due on the Admissions Deadline of your chosen program, unless you have received prior approval to use financial aid or enrolled in our Payment Plan.
Can I use financial aid to study abroad?
Most universities allow students to apply financial aid to their study abroad programs and Projects Abroad happily accepts applications through financial aid. Your Study Abroad and Financial Aid Offices should be able to provide you with information on how to use your financial aid to study abroad.

Do you offer payment plans for my Program Fee?
Yes, payment plans are available for our study abroad programs. Discuss your financial needs with our Admissions Advisors to explore suitable options!
Do I need to update my FAFSA for my time abroad?
Yes, consult with your university's Financial Aid Office to determine if updates to your FAFSA are necessary for your study abroad period, especially to ensure credit transfer and financial aid eligibility.
Are there any extra costs I should know about?
Our Program Fees cover nearly all of your expenses during programming. Items outside of programming, such as flights, visas, vaccines, and personal expenses; however, are not included and should be budgeted separately. Campus will close during program breaks, and we strongly encourage you to take this opportunity to explore more of your destination; however, housing and meals during this time can be provided at a small additional fee.
What is Projects Abroad’s Study Abroad Cancellation & Refund Policy?
Under certain circumstances, Projects Abroad offers refunds for tuition or room and board. Projects Abroad does not offer refunds for costs associated with the program including: flights, visas, immunizations or program gear.
These refund schedules apply to students withdrawing from Projects Abroad's programs, whether voluntary, mandated by a home institution, or due to dismissal from the program:
